There were twenty successful candidates for Naval Cadetships in the January 1874 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia who completed the examinations in the following order of merit.[1]

The source article did not mention the prior schooling of the successful candidates, but I indicated some below that I knew.

  14. Arthur Melville Hood Walrond
  15. Walter Edward Elliot
  16. Archibald Peile Stoddart
  17. George Stewkley Shuckburgh
  18. Godfrey Hubbard
  19. Cecil Fiennes Thursby
  20. William Cyprian Bridge

Eustace Goldfinch and White D. Couper (who might be George Couper) passed the test but were not selected. They would be welcome to compete again in the next examination.

From September 1903 entries were also made to the Royal Naval College, Osborne under the Selborne Scheme. The Britannia was closed in July 1905 after the May entry, which was sent to Bermuda with the January entry. The following two terms under the old scheme were sent straight to the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
