H.M.S. Martial was one of one hundred and three destroyers of the "M" class built for the Royal Navy during the Great War.

Service

She fought at the Battle of Jutland, screening the Battle Fleet as one of the 14 "M" class destroyers of the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla.[6]

On 24 June 1918, Charles Lewis Maitland Makgill Crichton was superseded in command by his younger brother, James Richard Maitland Makgill Crichton. Whether this is a unique occurrence is hard to guess, it is certainly a rare event in naval history.

Reduced to C. & M. Party at Devonport on 1 November, 1919.[7]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
