H.M.S. Thanet was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending. She was completed after the war.

Service

Thanet was re-commissioned at Chatham with Reserve Complement on 29 July, 1920.[6]

She was reduced to Reserve at Devonport on 29 October, 1928.[7]

In June of 1933, her bell was one of about 100 surplus bells announced as being for sale at prices ranging from £1 to £10. Preference would be given to those offers from men with a special consideration in the bell in question.[8]
