George Wilson (b)

Captain (retired) George Wilson, R.N. (12 May, 1885 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

There was an earlier George Wilson, who made Lieutenant on 15 June 1874. The "(b)" in this page's title is to differentiate the two.

Life & Career

The son of R. H. Wilson, Esq., solicitor and coroner[?] was born in St. Edmunds.

Wilson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1907.

In 1912, Wilson was decorated with an Italian Medal and Diploma for assisting in the 1908 earthquake at Messina.

Wilson served the entirety of the Great War as gunnery officer in the armoured cruiser Roxburgh, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1915. On 20 March 1919 he was appointed to Emperor of India as gunnery officer. In this appointment, he was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1920.

Wilson served as Commander (D), Devonport from 12 August, 1929 through 14 November, 1930, commanding Thanet twice and Tintagel briefly during that appointment.

Wilson was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 15 May, 1931.
