H.M.S. Thanet was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending. She was completed after the war.

Service

Thanet was re-commissioned at Chatham with Reserve Complement on 29 July, 1920.

She was reduced to Reserve at Devonport on 29 October, 1928.

In June of 1933, her bell was one of about 100 surplus bells announced as being for sale at prices ranging from £1 to £10. Preference would be given to those offers from men with a special consideration in the bell in question.
