H.M.S. Gretna was one of one hundred and fourteen Hunt Class minesweepers completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Paid off to a C. & M. Party on 22 October, 1919.[7]
In January, 1921, she was at Harwich, one of forty-one paid off minesweepers there.[8]
In early 1926, she was in the Reserve Fleet at the Nore.[9]
As the Central Reserve of Minesweepers at Sheerness was being merged into the general Fleet Reserve at the Nore in February 1928, it was deemed necessary to trim the fat. Gretna was one of ten obsolete minesweepers ordered to be placed on the for sale list, adding to a group of nine previously set for disposal.[10]
