Edward Neville Syfret

Admiral SIR Edward Neville Syfret, K.C.B., K.B.E., R.N.(20 June, 1889 – 10 December, 1972) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Cape Town, South Africa the son of accountant E. R. Syfret, Esq., Edward ranked 21st in merit of sixty cadets accepted in the May 1904 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia.[1]

Syfret was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 November, 1909.

Syfret was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 November, 1917.

Syfret was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1922.

Syfret was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1929.

World War II

Syfret was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 January, 1940.

Syfret was granted the acting rank of Vice-Admiral on 14 July, 1942.
