Alexander Robert Hammick

Rear-Admiral Alexander Robert Hammick, R.N. (16 February, 1887 – 1969) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Stoke, the son of Rear-Admiral Robert Frederick Hammick.

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1908.

When the war broke out, Hammick was appointed to gunnery officer in the battleship Prince George. He served in her until 19 October, 1915. A week later, he was admitted to Haslar Hospital, suffering from Bell's Palsy. At about the same time, he lost confidential books from the Devonport Gunnery School.

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1916.

In 1920, he a Webley pistol went missing from H.M.S. Canterbury, and Hammick bore some of the blame in the matter.

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1922.

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1929.

World War II

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 25 June, 1940 and placed on the Retired List the next day.

He was reverted to the Retired List as medically unfit on 13 September, 1945.
