Life & Career

The son of tea broker John J. Edelsten emerged from the Training Establishment on 15 September, 1908 and was appointed to the battleship Hibernia.[1]

He served in the light cruiser Yarmouth from the outbreak of war through 6 December, 1917, being engaged in the Battle of Jutland as part of the Third Light Cruiser Squadron. Edelsten was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 February, 1942.

Edelsten was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 25 September, 1945.[6]

Edelsten was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 3 February, 1949. He served an unusually long time in this senior rank, being retired 24 November, 1954.[7]
