H.M.S. Recruit was one of forty "C" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".
She is not to be confused with the "R" class destroyer of the same name.
Service
Recruit was hit while at anchor in Sheerness Harbour by a barge on 27 April, 1907. She was taken into the steam basin, awaiting her turn in the No. 3 Dock when Ure was undocked on 29 April.[9]
She was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[10]
In mid-1913, active with the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.[11]
She was torpedoed by UB 6 on 1 May, 1915[12] near Galloper Lightship, with the loss of 39.[13] The ship was cut in half and sank immediately.[14]
