Captain (retired) Arthur George Hayes Bond (10 February, 1881 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Bond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1902.[1]

Bond was appointed in command of Zephyr in September, 1907. In early 1908, she collided with T.B. 2, which displeased the Admiralty. Appointed in command of the "A" Class destroyer Dragon in August, 1909, Bond contributed to good results in torpedo firings later in the year. Bond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1910 and re-appointed in Dragon.[2]

Bond was appointed in command of the destroyer Welland on 23 May, 1911.[3]

In January, 1912, Bond received a "fairly satisfactory" inspection of Angler. On 31 July, 1912, Bond was appointed in command of the destroyer Rifleman. On 5 August he was hospitalised with a dental disease, requiring just eight of the fourteen days he was allotted to return to fitness. In September, a Court of Enquiry into damage to a whaler found that Bond was to blame, and he was cautioned in the matter.[4].

On 12 July, 1915, Bond was suffering from tonsillitis. On 30 July, he was fit and returned to duty in command of Rifleman. In early 1916, he was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy for a period of three years, to help form the Royal Australian Torpedo Boat Flotilla.[5]

Bond was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.[6]

On 2 August 1918, he was reported to be en route back to England during a refit of H.M.A.S. Swan.

Post-War

On 11 January, 1919, Bond was reported to be in hospital in Malta, but he did rejoin Swan on 2 February.[7]

Bond was appointed in command of the destroyer Sylph on 10 September, 1920.[8]

On 25 October, 1922, Bond refused an appointment in command of Philomel and as Superintendent of Training under the New Zealand government with regret and was instead placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 November, 1922.[9]

Bond was promoted to the rank of Captain upon his forty-fifth birthday on on 10 February, 1926. Later that year, he was reportedly in service with the South African military.[10]
