H.M.S. Winchelsea was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Winchelsea joined the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla in March 1918.[7]

She re-commissioned on 27 August, 1920.[8]

Winchelsea was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 15 September, 1924 to serve with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[9] She would remain with the flotilla through at least mid-1931.

Winchelsea was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 27 May, 1927 to serve with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[10]

She was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 3 December, 1929 for continued work with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Harold William Seaman.[11]

Paid off into Reserve at Portsmouth on 12 April, 1932.[12]

Winchelsea was commissioned at The Nore on 28 May, 1934 for service with the Fifth Submarine Flotilla.[13]

Commissioned at Portsmouth on 2 February, 1937 for duty with the Fifth Submarine Flotilla.[14]
