Admiral Arthur William Edward Prothero, Royal Navy, Retired (18 April, 1850 – 1 January, 1931) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

His last name was sometimes offered as Protheroe.[1] His fiery cousin, Reginald Charles Prothero, became a Vice-Admiral.

Early Life & Career

Born in Worcester, Prothero entered the navy on 8 September, 1863.[2]

Prothero was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 August, 1873.[3]

In December 1883, he was appointed to Superb for gunnery duties but on 27 March, 1884, he was appointed to Carysfort for passage to Cygnet for garrison duty in Port Said. Prothero was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1886.[5]
