H.M.S. Windsor was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Windsor was commissioned on 15 August, 1918.[8]

She was re-commissioned at Port Edgar on 27 September, 1923 to serve with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[9]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 3 May, 1926 for service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[10]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 1 January, 1929 for service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[11]

While serving with the Atlantic Fleet out of Gibraltar in April 1930, Windsor was sent off to Sheerness to be taken in hand to have her boilers re-tubed. She was replaced for the duration of this work by the Vesper, to whom Commander Loveband transferred for this duration.[12]

She left Portsmouth on 7 January, 1931 with nine other ships to commence the Spring Cruise.[13]

Windsor was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 24 April, 1931 for continued service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet under the command of Charles Taschereaux Beard.[14]

Windsor was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 4 May, 1933 for service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla, which was now part of Home Fleet.[15]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth with Reserve Complement on 22 May 1935.[16]

She re-commissioned in Reserve at Portsmouth on 25 June, 1936.[17]
