H.M.S. Campbell was one of eight flotilla leaders of the Scott class.
Service
Campbell re-commissioned on 21 September, 1923.[7]
Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 3 May, 1926 for duty as flotilla leader of the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[8]
Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 1 January, 1929 for duty with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[9]
Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 4 May, 1933 as flagship of the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[10]
She was paid off into dockyard hands at Portsmouth for a retubing refit on 4 December, 1930.[11] This work finished, she was re-commissioned for trials at Portsmouth on 14 April, 1931 and then again on 17 June for duty with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic Fleet.[12][13]
Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 28 May, 1935.[14]
Equipment
In 1919, she was selected to receive one of the first five Renouf Torpedo Tactical Instrument Type As.[15]
In 1923, she was one of five leader types to be given new, opalescent glass dials with 16 orders for their Chadburn's Torpedo Telegraphs, an increase from the 12 orders in the original design. They required new gearing to match. It was resolved that further installations of this type should occur "as soon as financial conditions permit of it."[16]
In 1934, her bell was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at the price of £5 or perhaps £1. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.[17]
