Vice-Admiral Evelyn Claude Ogilvie Thomson, C.B., D.S.O. (13 April, 1884 – 21 December, 1941) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 January, 1905.[1]

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 January, 1913.[2]

Thomson was appointed in command of the destroyer Lizard on 24 May, 1913.[3]

He commanded the destroyer Petard at the Battle of Jutland, where she operated as part of the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla.[4]

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1916.[5]

Thomson was appointed in command of the destroyer Verdun on 16 October, 1917.[6]

Post-War

On 7 July, 1919, Thomson was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Valentine.[7]

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1924.[8]

He was appointed in command of the Gosport training centre, H.M.S. St. Vincent vice Raikes on 9 April, 1932.[9]

He was to be appointed in command of the heavy cruiser Berwick in November, 1934 vice Sedgwick, but this was cancelled.

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 2 January, 1936.[10]

Thomson was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 31 July, 1939.[11]
