H.M. T.B. 2 was one of 19 first-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 1 class.

Service

During November and December of 1878, T.B. 2 underwent trials under the supervision of the Captain of the Portsmouth Steam Reserve, commanded on various occasions by Navigating Lieutenants Albert Wonham and Herbert Roxby, both serving in Asia.[6][7]

T.B. 2 was turned over to the Portsmouth Steam Reserve on the morning of 18 April, 1879. Soon afterward she was sent to Devonport for use in training.[8]

In 1881, there were twenty T.B.s in all; T.B. 2 was reported as "fitted for Whitehead" and serving out of Devonport.[9]

During the crisis following the Panjdeh Incident in 1885, T.B. 2 was put into commission as part of Admiral Phipps Hornby's Particular Service Squadron on 28 April, and was later involved in the year's Annual Manoeuvres at Berehaven.[10]

Commissioned as tender to Valorous in May 1886 for flotilla manoeuvres.[11][12]

In 1895, she was one of four T.B.s of less than 125 feet in length and thirteen longer ones stationed in Devonport.[13]

T.B. 2 was sold to H. Scown of Plymouth for £25. Her engine was removed for use in Devonport Dockyard.[14]
