Captain (retired) Charles Harold Jones, D.S.O., R.N. (24 January, 1884 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Capetown, South Africa, Jones entered the navy with the Archbishop of Capetown listed as his "nearest relative". With the power of the clergy in place, Jones gained four months' time on passing out of Britannia on a Colonial Cadetship.

Jones was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1905.

Jones was appointed in command of the destroyer Havock on 8 August, 1910.[1]

Jones was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1913.

On 14 January, 1914, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Cherwell.[2]

On 28 August, 1916, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Parthian.[3]

Jones was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.

Post-War

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 August, 1922.

Jones was promoted to the rank of Captain on 24 January, 1929.

In 1931, the Penarth Yacht Club reported a loss of funds while Jones was secretary of the club. Jones was instructed to inform the Admiralty when he had repaid these funds. He was also cautioned about proceeding abroad without Admiralty permission.
