Basil Charles Barrington Brooke

Vice-Admiral (retired) Basil Charles Barrington Brooke, C.B., C.B.E. (6 April, 1895 – 20 January, 1983) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of V. M. Brooke, Esq., J.P., a landowner, Brooke was a special entry to the September 1913 intake term at Royal Naval College, Osborne. He was passed out on 2 August 1914, most certainly in light of the war, and was appointed to the first class protected cruiser Theseus of Cruiser Force B.

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1918.

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1926.

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1938.

World War II

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 July, 1947.

Brooke was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 11 October, 1949 and promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 December, 1950.
