Admiral SIR Angus Edward Malise Bontine Cunninghame Graham, K.B.E., C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (16 February, 1892 – 14 February, 1981) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

His father was Lt. (later Cdr.) Charles E. F. Cunninghame-Graham, R.N..[1]

His godfather was Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. His uncle was Robert Cunninghame-Graham, a famous horseman known in Argentina as "Don Roberto" and also as the "Gaucho Laird." The Royal Navy originally had his name hyphenated, but in 1936 he personally asked that it not be so.

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Acting Sub-Lieutenant on 15 September, 1912.[2][3]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Lieutenant on 10 August, 1914.[4]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 10 August, 1922.[5]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Commander on 31 December, 1927.[6]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Captain on 31 December, 1935.[7]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 2 January, 1945.[8]

Post-Second World War

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Vice-Admiral on 2 September, 1948. He was placed on the Retired List on 15 October, 1951.[9]

Cunninghame Graham was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Dumbarton on 4 March, 1952.[10]

Cunninghame Graham was promoted to Admiral on 15 March, 1952.[11]

On 5 January, 1955, he was commissioned as Her Majesty's Lieutenant of the County of Dumbarton.[12] On 9 May he succeeded his late predecessor as Lord Lieutenant in the position of Keeper of Dumbarton Castle.[13] He was succeeded as Lord Lieutenant of Dumbarton on 14 May, 1968.[14]
