H.M.S. Juno was commissioned in 1897 as one of nine Eclipse class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Then part of the Channel Fleet, Juno started a refit in Portsmouth in May 1908, after completing a Gunlayers' Test.[8]
In mid-August 1912, Juno, Astræa and Charybdis were contributing to congestion in Chatham Dockyard, and were to be moved out to the Medway.[9]
She recommissioned at Chatham on 20 January, 1913 for temporary service as the ship of Captain (D) of the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla.[10] By mid-year, she was due to be replaced in this role by Sentinel after Manœuvres. She was to be reduced to Reserve Commission at Chatham on 30 June, 1913.[11]
Juno replaced Sutlej as flagship in Cruiser Force E on 17 February, 1915. She would remain flagship until 5 April, 1915, save for a single week when Isis replaced her from 3 March.[12]
Radio
In 1901 while assigned to the Cruiser Squadron, the ship was noted as having or being slated to receive a "1 to 52" W/T set.[13]
