Vice-Admiral Edward Oliver Brudenell Seymour Osborne, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy (13 April, 1883 – 17 September, 1956) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Osborne was born in South Kensington. His father, H. B. Osborne, was an Indian Mail Officer.

Osborne underwent examinations for in July, 1897 and gained entrance to Britannia's term of August, 1897, his 1398 marks placing him eleventh among the sixty-three candidates accepted as naval cadets.[1]

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 15 March, 1904.

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander with seniority of 15 March, 1912.

Osborne was the Gunnery Officer of H.M.S. Conqueror from 15 April, 1912–1915, and Executive Officer 1915–1918.

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Commander with seniority of 31 December, 1915.

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 31 December, 1920.

In August 1930, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Centaur.

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral with seniority of 5 January, 1933.

Osborne was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral with seniority of 26 June, 1937 and placed on the Retired List the following day in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.
