Alexander Robinson Palmer

Vice-Admiral Alexander Robinson Palmer, R.N. (23 May, 1879 – 14 December, 1963) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Palmer gained a full twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1900.

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1911.

Palmer was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Thames on 14 January, 1914.

Great War

On 21 May, 1916, Palmer was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Juno.

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1917.

Post-War

In late 1924, Palmer was admitted to Plymouth Naval Hospital to be observed for a digestive disease. He was declared fit on 15 November. He returned in 1926 with bronchial complaints, being returned to health on 5 May.

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 25 March, 1929 and placed on the Retired List the following day.

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 11 February, 1934.

Palmer offered his services in 1937, but his further involvement with the service seems only to be intermittent admittances to Haslar Naval Hospital for gastric ulcers.
