H.M.S. Hasty (1894)
Builder: Yarrow & Company[1]
Ordered: 1893-94[2]
Laid down: Dec, 1893[3]
Launched: 16 Jun, 1894[4]
Commissioned: May, 1896[5]
Broken up: 1912[6]

H.M.S. Hasty was one of thirty-six 27 Knotters, early Torpedo Boat Destroyers built for the Royal Navy in the 1890s.

Her size, speed and condition rendered her outmoded before the war, and she was broken up in 1912.

Service

Hasty was launched with her engines in place in June 1894, her boilers not yet installed. Similar to Havock, she was ten feet longer.[7]

Hasty carried out her gun, torpedo and circling trials at Portsmouth on 22 January 1896.[8] On 25 May, she and Charger joined the A Division of the Fleet Reserve at Portsmouth.[9]

On 25 June, Hasty received orders that she was to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1896.[10]

She and sixteen other destroyers of the Reserve Division arrived at Sheerness on 13 July 1905 and proceeded to Chatham.[11]

In June of 1933, her bell was one of about 100 surplus bells announced as being for sale at prices ranging from £1 to £10. Preference would be given to those offers from men with a special consideration in the bell in question.[12]
