H.M.S. City of Oxford was purchased in late 1914 for use as a dummy battleship in the Royal Navy. She later served as a kite balloon ship.

Service

Her service as a kite balloon ship began on 17 July, 1915 and ended on 20 November, 1918. In 1917 and 1918, she was in the Eastern Mediterranean.[7]
