Admiral Thomas MacGill, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (16 August, 1850 – 16 April, 1926) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
For his service with the Suakin Expeditionary Force MacGill was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 17 August, 1885.[1]
MacGill was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1892.[2]
In recognition of his services in Benin he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 25 May, 1897.[3]
MacGill was appointed in command of the battleship Royal Sovereign in December, 1902.[4]
MacGill was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 27 November, 1904, vice Henderson.[5]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, MacGill retired at his own request on 31 May, 1906.[6] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 5 November, 1908,[7] and to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 20 March, 1913.[8]
