H.M.S. St. George was completed in 1894 as one of nine Edgar class cruisers, but was converted to a depot ship before the Great War.
Service
St. George completed conversion to depot ship in March, 1910,[7] commissioning at Chatham on the 15th[8] and joining the Third Destroyer Flotilla, supporting the Third Division of the Home Fleet.
After escorting Victoria and Albert, St. George returned to Portsmouth on 26 September 1901 after seven months at sea. Even with a foul bottom, she had maintained 18.5 knots.[9]
She would serve the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla in the Forth from mid-1913 if not earlier,[10] until August 1915 and also the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla in the Humber in 1914 through October 1915, and finally to the Mediterranean.[11]
