Admiral (retired) Arthur John Layard Murray, C.B., D.S.O., O.B.E., R.N. (25 November, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Murray was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1907.
Murray was appointed to the battleship Agamemnon as torpedo officer on 19 December, 1912. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1913, he continued to serve in Agamemnon until 6 June, 1916 when he was appointed to H.M.S. Vernon. Murray spent the rest of the war at the torpedo school until being appointed to Fox, additional, for torpedo duties on 6 July 1919.
Post-War
Murray was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1919. In 1924-25 he was a Signal School
Murray was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1927.
Murray was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 January, 1939.
Murray was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 6 April, 1942.
World War II
Murray was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 3 April, 1943.
Murray was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 8 May, 1945.
