Captain John Pelham Champion, C.B.E., D.S.O., R.N., Retired (26 March, 1883 – 13 February, 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Reverend Francis B. Champion was born in Derbyshire.
Champion was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904.[1]
Champion was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912.
Champion was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 March, 1915.
Champion was in command of the destroyer Maenad of the Twelfth Destroyer Flotilla at the Battle of Jutland.[2]
Post-War
Champion was placed on the Retired List at his own request upon the expiration of his foreign service leave, that date being 13 December, 1922.
Champion was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 26 March, 1928.
World War II
Champion died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 13 February, 1955.
