H.M.S. Pactolus was completed as one of eleven Pelorus class cruisers, but served as a submarine depot ship in the Great War.

Service

In August 1900, she was one of six cruisers at Chatham ordered to receive wireless telegraphy systems along with Sans Pareil, then port guarship at Sheerness.[7]

Pactolus completed conversion to a submarine depot ship in September 1912,[8] and was commissioned on the 24th at Chatham.[9]

She serviced the boats of the Ninth Submarine Flotilla out of the Clyde from at least mid-1913[10] through the start of the war through September 1916.

In March, 1914, Lt. Cdr. Crowther was blamed when Pactolus collided with the brig Traveller.[11]

Pactolus paid off on 21 July, 1919.[12]
