Joseph Kenneth Chaplin
Commander R.N.R. Joseph Kenneth Chaplin, R.D. (7 February, 1885 – 21 February, 1954) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Chaplin was appointed to the battlecruiser New Zealand on 29 July 1914. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 13 July, 1915 and continued to serve in the ship until 29 July 1917, being involved in action at the Battle of Heligoland Bight and the Battle of Jutland.[1]
After some time in Devonport, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Boxer on 22 September, 1917. Some time that year, he received an adverse report following a collision.[2]
Chaplin commanded the destroyer Conflict from April 1918 until being appointed to the monitor Mersey as first officer on 3 January, 1919. He was demobilised on 13 August, 1919.[3]
Chaplin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 13 July, 1923.[4]
Chaplin was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1928.[5]
I do not see mention of his retirement in ADM 240/57/31.
