James Frank William Mudford
Captain James Frank William Mudford, (1 May, 1898 – 31 December, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of a ropemaker. This would eventually prove sadly ironic for him.[1]
Mudford served in Implacable from the outset of the war until she paid off on 19 April, 1916. He was then in Royal Oak until 22 March, 1917, fighting in herr at the Battle of Jutland.[2]
Mudford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1919.[3]
Mudford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1927.[4]
Mudford was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.[5]
World War II
Mudford was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1939.[6]
Mudford was logged by the Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Fleet in 1943 for failing to properly supervise the management of wardroom mess accounts and wine stocks aboard H.M.S. Frobisher during a period in which irregularities arose.[7]
He was appointed in command of the shore establishment H.M.S. Cochrane, vice Coltart, from 8 March, 1946 to 1 October, 1947 and also as Senior Officer, Reserve Fleet, Forth Area, vice Oddie.[8]
Placed on the Retired List on 10 July, 1948, Mudford was re-appointed temporarily. He finally retired on 22 October 1948.[9]
Mudford hanged himself on 31 December, 1954.[10]
