Britain launched four Heron Class Gunboats in 1897 for use on the China Station. They are oddly missing in Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1860-1905.

The vessels were as follows:[1]

  • 85 tons
  • 108 feet overall (100 between perpendiculars)
  • 2 foot draught
  • 20 foot beam
  • 9 knots on 240 I.H.P.
