Britain launched four Heron Class Gunboats in 1897 for use on the China Station. They are oddly missing in Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1860-1905.

- 108 feet overall (100 between perpendiculars)
- 2 foot draught
- 20 foot beam
- 9 knots on 240 I.H.P.
