Frederick Alfred Tollemache
Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Frederick Alfred Tollemache (10 May, 1885 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Tollemache was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant R.N.R. on 9 July, 1904.[1]
Tollemache served in the light cruiser Gloucester and the battleship Hercules before transferring to the Royal Navy at the rank of Supplementary Lieutenant on 1 September, 1913.[2]
Tollemache was appointed to the new destroyer Narborough on 4 April, 1916 and would serve in her when she fought at the Battle of Jutland as part of the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla.[3]
Tollemache was appointed in command of the destroyer Beaver on 5 January, 1918.[4]
In December, 1919 he was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy for two years. This ended early when he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 17 July, 1920 after having been evaluated by Cdr. Howard as being below average, intemperate, slow and not possessing seamanlike qualities.
Tollemache was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 1 September, 1921.[5]
