Captain (retired) Eric Paul Vivian, R.N. (8 September, 1891 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Vivian was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1914.
Vivian was appointed in command of the patrol boat PC 43 on 20 March, 1919.[1]
Vivian was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1922.
Vivian was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1927.
Vivian was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 8 September, 1937.
World War II
Vivian was grated the acting rank of Captain on 10 November, 1939.
Vivian was appointed to the auxiliary cruiser Laurentic on 2 September, 1939, to take command upon her commissioning.
He was blamed for grounding Laurentic on 6 January, 1940 and told to be more careful in future. Vivian was still in command of Laurentic when she was lost to torpedoes from U.99 on 3 November, 1940.
He reverted to the Retired List on 31 October 1946.
