Edward Herbert Moubray

Admiral Edward Herbert Moubray, Royal Navy, Retired (22 January, 1865 – 9 March, 1929) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Moubray was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1887.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1899.[2]

Captain Henry L. Fleet, commanding the Howe on the Coast of Ireland Station, requested that Moubray, "my old shipmate and friend", come out and serve under him, having served with each other in the Tartar and gunboat Pigeon.[3]

Moubray was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1905.[4] On 17 July, 1906, he was appointed in command of H.M.S. Vindictive.[5]

In February 1911, he assumed command of the armoured cruiser Suffolk.

Moubray was appointed Captain in Charge and King's Harbour Master at Rosyth on 7 March, 1913.

On 1 July, 1913, he was appointed in command of the depot ship Columbine, remaining in his Harbour Master role.[6]

Great War

After War came, he assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Gibraltar in June 1915, remaining in her for one year.

On 29 June, 1916, Moubray was appointed Captain of the Dockyard and Deputy Superintendent and King's Harbour Master at Portsmouth Royal Dockyard.[7]

On 26 April, 1917, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral.[8] He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 27 April.[9]

Retirement

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 6 April, 1922.[10] He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 25 October, 1926.[11]

He died at Hyeres, France, on 9 March, 1929.[12]
