Denys Charles Gerald Shoppee
Commander Denys Charles Gerald Shoppee, D.S.C. (7 February, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of a solicitor.
Shoppee was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1914. On 19 October he was lent to the Headquarters Staff of Allied Forces, Belgium, where he would find himself on shore assisting in directing shore bombardment. On 14 January 1915 he was mentioned in despatches of Field Marshall Sir John French for service in Belgium. Colonel Bridges noted that in "performing this service Lieut Shoppee has been exposed day after day to heavy German artillery fire & has never failed to carry out his duties to my complete satisfaction by day or night."[1]
Shoppee was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1922.[2]
Shoppee was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1927.[3]
He was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 30 June, 1932.[4]
World War II
Reverted 20 April, 1944.[5]
