Vice-Admiral (retired) Clifford Caslon, C.B., C.B.E. (11 May, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Sydney H. Caslon, Esq., a [illeg] Founder.[1]

Caslon served in Monarch from 15 September 1913 through 24 December 1915, and then in Malaya through 1 December 1918, having been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1917.[2]

In the mid-1920s, he served as flag lieutenant to admiral Tyrwhitt.[3]

Caslon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1925.[4]

Caslon was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1930.[5]

Caslon was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1937.[6]

World War II

He commanded the depot ship Tyne from 25 July, 1941 through 30 May, 1942, holding a variety of other appointments at the same time.[7]

Superseded as Commodore Commanding, Home Fleet Destroyers by Rear-Admiral Robert Lindsay Burnett on 5 March, 1942.

Caslon was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 January, 1947.

Caslon was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 August, 1950.

Admitted to Haslar Hospital on 1 July 1954 for an ulcer on his cheek. He was discharged to his home on the 3rd.
