Commander (retired) Charles Vernon Robinson, (14 February, 1900 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Admiral Charles Grey Robinson emerged from the Training Establishment on 1 January 1916 and received an appointment to the battleship Bellerophon. He would fight in her at the Battle of Jutland, and leave her when appointed to an eleven day Torpedo Control course at H.M.S. Vernon in March 1918. On 29 March 1918 he was appointed to the destroyer Medea, which was operating in support of the Tenth Submarine Flotilla. He would remain with Medea until 5 July, 1919.[1]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[2]

On 13 July 1923 he qualified as a Lieutenant (S). On 10 April 1924 he was sent to provide signal duties in the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[3]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927. That same year, he was noticed for rendering good service in connection with the development of "D/C apparatus", which I presume means depth charges here.[4]

World War II

Robinson was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 14 February, 1945.[5]

In 1947, he applied to transfer to the Electrical Branch and was accordingly reinstated as a Commander (L) on 5 February, 1947.
