Charles Edward Rathkins

Captain R.N.R. Charles Edward Rathkins, R.D., R.N.R. (6 March, 1883 – 20 February, 1964) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. He was born Carl Edward Rahtkens and selected a more British-sounding variant perhaps in 1917.

Life & Career

Rahtkens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1915.

Rathkins was appointed in command of the destroyer Arun on 25 July, 1917.

Demobilised on 19 August, 1919.

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1923.

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 31 December, 1926.

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 31 December, 1932.

World War II

In 1948, he reported that he was retired and living in Preston. Gamely for a man of sixty-five years, he declared himself fit for general service.
