Charles Edward Rathkins

Captain R.N.R. Charles Edward Rathkins, R.D., R.N.R. (6 March, 1883 – 20 February, 1964) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. He was born Carl Edward Rahtkens and selected a more British-sounding variant perhaps in 1917.

Life & Career

Rahtkens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1915.[1]

Rathkins was appointed in command of the destroyer Arun on 25 July, 1917.[2][3]

Demobilised on 19 August, 1919.[4]

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1923.[5]

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 31 December, 1926.[6]

Rathkins was promoted to the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 31 December, 1932.[7]

World War II

In 1948, he reported that he was retired and living in Preston. Gamely for a man of sixty-five years, he declared himself fit for general service.[8]
