H.M.S. Suffolk (1926)
Builder: Portsmouth Royal Dockyard[1]
Laid down: 30 Sep, 1924[2]
Launched: 16 Feb, 1926[3]
Completed: 31 May, 1928[4]
Broken up: 1948[5]
H.M.S. Suffolk was one of seven Kent Class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Her final year of construction was overseen by Commander Charles Edward Barrington Simeon, who was to remain with her as executive officer upon her eventual commissioning.[6]

Completed to full crew at Portsmouth on 7 February, 1928.[7]

The ship was completed at Portsmouth for service on 26 May, 1928. She departed the port for China on 1 June, 1928, to relieve H.M.S. Carlisle on that station.[8][9]

She re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 2 September, 1930 and proceeded to the China Station bearing the Commander-in-Chief, Vice-Admiral William A. H. Kelly and to operate with the Fifth Cruiser Squadron.[10]

Suffolk was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 19 July 1933 for service as flagship of the Fifth Cruiser Squadron under the command of Captain Errol Manners.[11]

She commissioned at Chatham on 5 January, 1937 and continued service with the Fifth Cruiser Squadron.[12]
