H.M.S. Dolphin (1882)
Builder: Raylton Dixon, Middlesbrough[1]
Launched: 9 Dec, 1882[2]
Sold: 1925[3]
H.M.S. Dolphin was one of two Dolphin Class composite screw sloops completed for the Royal Navy. She served as a submarine depot ship in the Great War.

Service

In 1907, Dolphin was made an accommodation ship for submarines.[4]

She became an independent command in Portsmouth on 31 August, 1912 under Captain Roger J. B. Keyes, Commodore 2nd Class in charge of Submarine Service.[5]

In mid-1913, Dolphin was servicing the Second Submarine Flotilla[6] and was still doing so at the outset of the war. In September 1916, she moved over to assist the Sixth Submarine Flotilla until the end of the war.[7]
