Max Kennedy Horton

Admiral SIR Max Kennedy Horton, G.C.B., D.S.O, R.N. (29 November, 1893 – 30 July, 1951) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Horton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1905.

Horton was appointed in command of the submarine D 6 on 31 August, 1912.

Horton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1913.

Horton was appointed in command of the submarine E 9 on 11 March, 1914.

Great War

In E9, Horton torpedoed the German aviso S.M.S. Hela six miles from Heligoland on 13 September, 1914 with two hits amidships. In October, he sank the German torpedo boat S 116 near the mouth of the Ems.

Horton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1914.

Post-War

Horton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1920. In March, 1922, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Conquest.

Horton was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 17 October, 1932.

Horton was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 19 August, 1936.

World War II

Horton was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 3 January, 1941.

Horton died of a coronary thrombosis.
