Rear-Admiral (retired) Laurence Richard Oliphant, C.B.E., R.N. (16 December, 1877 – 6 December, 1950) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Bombay.

Oliphant was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in September, 1898.

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1909.

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1915.

On 1 April, 1914 Oliphant was appointed in command of the ancient second class protected cruiser Leander, then depot ship for the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla at Devonport.[1]

He was appointed in command of the light cruiser Penelope on 6 January, 1918.[2]

Oliphant was retired on 14 July, 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (retired) on 9 July, 1926.

World War II

Reported as unfit for sea service.
