Gerald Harper
Commander (retired) Gerald Harper, O.B.E., R.N. (30 October, 1885 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Harper was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1907.
Harper was appointed Lieutenant in Command of the scout cruiser Sentinel on 1 July, 1913.[1] He apparently remained in the ship through mid July 1918 after being superseded in command in mid-August, 1914, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1915.
On 23 July 1918, he was appointed to Askold as first and gunnery officer.
Post-War
Harper left Askold after being appointed to Calliope as gunnery officer on 15 August, 1919.
On 10 September 1923, Harper was appointed to take a course at the School of Balloon Training at Larkhill. On 7 October, he was appointed to the Devonport Gunnery School.
Harper ceased work at Devonport in September 1924 and spent a few years doing typical post-war work looking over groups of ships in reserve. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 29 April, 1927.
