Richard Hyde

Vice-Admiral Richard Hyde, C.B., C.B.E., M.V.O., Royal Navy (9 October, 1872 – 26 November, 1931) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hyde was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1894.

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1905.

Hyde was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1912.

In August 1912, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Talbot.

He was appointed command of the scout cruiser Blanche on 5 July, 1913.

He was made captain of the armoured cruiser Essex in May 1916, staying until September.

White Russia

On 8 August, 1918 he was appointed to North Russia as P.N.T.O. (perhaps "Principal Naval Transport Officer?") as a Commodore, Second Class. On 24 February, 1919 he took passage in Canada from Archangel for Murmansk, which kept him away for about three weeks. He stayed in North Russia until 1 December, 1919 with some of his time being as Senior Naval Officer, White Sea and as S.N.O., Archangel.

Hyde was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 24 July, 1922 and placed on the Retired List by his own request the next day.

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 14 January, 1928.

Hyde committed suicide "while of unsound mind" on 26 November, 1931.
