Theodore Frederick Annesley Voysey
Commander (retired) Theodore Frederick Annesley Voysey (8 June, 1894 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Voysey was born in Devon, the son of Reverend Annesley Montagu Voysey.
Voysey passed out of the training establishment on 15 January, 1912 and was appointed to the Orion the same day. He served in her until 3 December 1914 when he was appointed to Penelope, to join her upon commissioning. He'd leave her only on St. Valentine's Day, 1916 when he was appointed to Dolphin for a submarine course, the field in which his naval career would shine. On 1 April, he'd be appointed to Forth for service in submarines.[1]
Voysey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1916. On 21 September 1916, he was appointed to Dolphin for E 32, to take command upon her commissioning.[2]
On 25 May, 1918 Voysey was appointed to the Periscope Course. On 9 July, 1918, he was appointed in command of the rather elderly C 8.
Married Mildred Eleanor Hodgson on 23 September, 1919 in Mouball, Devon.
Voysey was appointed in command of submarines L 6 and L 12, of Group D in reserve at Portsmouth on 6 December, 1920.
Following this, he was appointed to H.M.S. Repulse on 30 May, 1921 and then H.M.S. Revenge on 4 August, 1922.
Voysey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1924.[3]
World War II
Voysey was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 8 June, 1939. He served his nation throughout World War II, however, in a variety of postings at Boscawen. In 1945 he ws awarded a certificate of service as Master by the Ministry of War Transport.[4]
