Rear-Admiral Charles Farquhar-Smith (29 January, 1888 – 17 June, 1968) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Australian Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Taree, New South Wales.[1]
On 3 August 1914 he was appointed to the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Aboukir, playing a small part in the Battle of Heligoland Bight on 28 August. He would survive her torpedoing and loss shortly thereafter in the broad fourteens, appearing on deck in his bedclothes before finding a raft and eventual rescue.[2]
Farquhar-Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 August, 1914[3] or 1 October, 1915.[4]
Farquhar-Smith was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1925.[5]
Farquhar-Smith was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1930.[6]
Farquhar-Smith was appointed in command of the battleship Iron Duke from May to October, 1936.
