Admiral SIR William Gerrard Andrewes, K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O. (3 November, 1899 – 21 November, 1974) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Andrewes was appointed to battleship Canada in August of 1915 and fought in her at the Battle of Jutland.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1932.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1938.

World War II

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 9 January, 1948.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 December, 1950.

Andrewes was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 24 November, 1954.
