Commander (retired) John Walter Hoskyns, (19 July, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Rear-Admiral Peyton Hoskyns passed out of the Training Establishment on 15 January, 1910 and was appointed to serve one year in the battleship Russell in the Mediterranean. This was followed by 18 months in the armoured cruiser Lancaster on the same station.

When the Great War broke out, Hoskyns was in the light cruiser Yarmouth. He left her in April 1915. Hoskyns was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1915 and was appointed to the monitor Roberts the following month. On 13 July 1916 he was appointed to the light cruiser Cambrian.

Hoskyns was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1923.

Hoskyns was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander on 16 June, 1937.
